Montreal-based songwriter Mac DeMarco is best known for trying on personas and musical styles as effortlessly as one might try on a new shade of lipstick, but Mac DeMarco 2, his upcoming LP on Captured Tracks, sees the 22-year-old home in on honest-to-goodness songcraft. Second single "Freaking Out The Neighborhood," presumably an apology for all the people he pissed off with his shapeshifting hijinx under previous moniker Makeout Videotape, weaves a scorching guitar line into an exquisitely Beatles-like vocal melody.
