Thankfully, pop's well of summer hits has yet to run dry. Ariana Grande, the 20-year-old Nickelodeon star whose burgeoning, Scooter Braun-backed music career could very well leapfrog Miley's, has released a new single that's even better than her duet with Mac Miller, a cute collaboration that somehow lent a little charm to everyone involved. Scanning other sites, it's damn near impossible to find a writeup of "Baby I" that doesn't compare Grande's feather-soft oh baby, oh babys to Mariah—"I love Mariah Carey, of course, she's the goddess of all vocals," she recently told MTV. It's a little imitative, maybe a little too harmless, but there are worse immediate connections you could make for an artist who, on paper, should sell a lot but amount to nothing. From where I sit, she's two for two. Ariana Grande's debut album, Yours Truly, comes out this fall, and "Baby I" is on iTunes now.
