In a year-end essay I wrote for The FADER in the winter of 2012, I remember including an observation about a set I'd caught from Angel Olsen at Glasslands in Brooklyn, and how it was the only performance I'd seen all year where every person in the audience fell absolutely silent. That's because everybody was so completely captivated by combined fragility and strength of her singing voice, and because the material on her Bathetic Records LP, Half Way Home, was the kind of quiet, acoustic music that has nuances that only reveal themselves if you listen really closely. From the sound of this new song, though, that anecdote is no longer really an relevant point of entry for describing the music she makes, because the Chicago-based folk singer has gone ahead and plugged in, with a full rock band sound that seems like it's rearing to overwhelm everything in its path. "Forgiven/Forgotten" is the lead single from her upcoming sophomore LP, Burn Your Fire for No Witness, which is out February 18th via Jagjaguwar. Tracklist and tourdates below.
