Sardonically billing itself as "Old Drunk America," New Bums is the new, guitar-centric joint from Six Organs of Admittance mastermind and Comets on Fire axe-grinder Ben Chasny and Skygreen Leopards' Donovan Quinn, both musicians closely associated with the mid-aughts psych-folk revival that WIRE magazine dubbed "New Weird America." "Black Bough" is the bedroom-eyed lead cut from their collaborative debut album, Voices In a Rented Room, which is due out February 18th via Drag City. Framed by a twanging bass and a beautiful, descending guitar tremolo, it's got the kind of sluggish, world-weary gait and bloated-roach-in-the-beer-can sentimentality that makes a finely crafted country melody sound all the more rare.
