If you've spent any time in the New York City over the last couple months, you may already be aware of the new Tupac-inspired musical Holler If Ya Hear Me, due to the advertisements plastered throughout the subway system. The Saul Williams-starring Broadway show is finally set to make its proper opening tonight, and in celebration, Brooklyn producer J.PERIOD is set to release a series of reimaginations of Pac's tracks called Holler If Ya Hear Me: REMIXED. The first missive from that collection, a plaintive remix of the Pac classic "Dear Mama" is streaming below. J.PERIOD takes the original's low-key instrumental and offers up a lilting parallel in the form of some slowly drawled acoustic guitar and coffee-shop percussion. Holler If Ya Hear Me opens June 19th at the Palace Theatre in New York. You can snag tickets via Ticketmaster and hear J.PERIOD's full remix collection on June 24th.
