When a street anthem like "Hot Nigga" volcanoes up from unchartered corners like Bobby Shmurda's East Flatbush, two things happen: freestyles flood the internet and remixes hit the radio. The former's been going on all summer, with rappers throwing their own bars over Jahlil Beats' pulsing instrumental. But we've yet to see the equivalent of Kanye on "Don't Like" or Drake on "Versace," the kind of cosign that could bolster the single to stations across the country. French Montana hopping on "Hot Nigga" is not quite that big name remix, but it sounds so good anyway: French shouts "Free Meek," jams his verse with a 3:1 adlib-to-rapped word ratio (haaaaanh) and still finds time to drop bars as whimsical as Skate off like a pirate with your thot nigga. Don't believe the almanac, the summer's far from over.
