Beyoncé appeared on Good Morning America today promising to share "something amazing." The exclusive secret? The singer has embraced a vegan diet. "I am not naturally the thinnest woman," Beyoncé says in the segment above. "I have curves, I'm proud of my curves, and I have struggled since a young age with diets. Finding something that actually works, actually keeps the weight off, has been difficult for me." The "something" that works for her is three vegan meals a day, accompanied by regular exercise and lots of water.
However, fans felt that they had been mislead by the singer and by Good Morning America. All this hype for an announcement about veganism?
Beyoncé and GMA built suspense for her pro-vegan segment with teaser posts like this one. "Beyoncé has something amazing she wants you to know," a voice over declares. "So what is it? You’re gonna love it."
In some ways, this actually was a big deal, since the singer hasn’t talked to reporters in a long time. A May New York Times article noted, “a representative explained, [Beyoncé] not answered any direct questions for more than a year.”
But a segment of her fans didn't care for the nutritional advice. In retaliation, they started posting emojis of burgers, ice cream, and French fries under Bey’s Instagram photos.
Beyoncé still has plenty of supporters of course. One Twitter user compared this moment to the singer's decision to include the words of feminist activist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her song "***Flawless."
