Kanye West Still Thinks He Could Have Prevented His Mom’s Death

He opens up about the one thing he’d sacrifice for success.

Kanye West is still carrying guilt from the untimely death of his mother Donda. In the new issue of Q magazine, which the rapper covers, Kanye reveals that she is the one thing he's sacrificed for his success, as Yahoo News points out. "If I had never moved to L.A. she'd be alive," he said, presumably referencing the city's looks-obsessed reputation. (Donda's 2007 death was due to complications from going under the knife in an elective surgery.) "I don't want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears."

This isn't the first time Kanye has blamed himself for her death. Five years ago, in an essay he penned for XXL, 'Ye expressed a similar sentiment, writing, “When I moved to L.A., she moved to L.A. And she wound up in a place that would eat her alive. Even if I stayed in New York, it wouldn’t have been like that. If I had lived in New York, she’d still be here.”
