SZA has finally released Lana, the long-promised deluxe edition of her hit 2022 album SOS. Scroll down to listen on Apple Music and Spotify. The 15-track edition sports a guest appearance from Kendrick Lamar on the track "30 For 30."
Lana was first hinted at soon after the release of her sophomore album SOS, in December 2022. The album's title is a reference to a nickname SZA, born Solána Imani Rowe, has had since she was a child.
The singer gave deeper insight during a September 2023 concert in New York City: "So the deluxe is like a whole ‘nother album, and it’s called Lana." The project was originally promised for fall of that year, but SZA did not release any music — a song titled "Saturn" — until February 2024.
In November 2024, SZA told Vogue that work on Lana was still ongoing. “I think I am making music from a more beautiful place. From a more possible place versus a more angsty place," she said. She revealed the December 20 release date of Lana just this week with an album trailer featuring Ben Stiller and a new song called "Drive." On December 18, she shared the cover art, showing SZA as a streetwear-clad alien ant creature.
This year, SZA appeared on two songs on Kendrick Lamar's surprise album GNX, "luther" and "gloria." She'll join him for the Grand National tour next year.
On Friday morning, SZA shared the music video for "Drive." The album did not appear on streaming services until 3 p.m. EST, after some last-minute mixing issues forced SZA's team to work overtime. "All songs are delivered and Ingesting into the system as we speak," SZA wrote in the early hours of December 20.
