Having already conquered her native Greece, Monika now hopes to win over the States with her disco-indebted art pop. Working closely with the Dap Kings' Homer Steinweiss, she's begun recording what will be her first release outside of Europe, an album titled Secret in the Dark that is slated for released this fall on Other Music Recording Co. Today she shares a taste of that project, "Stripping," which came about by happy accident.
"'Stripping' was our main reference for the album and we were excited that, even on its demo version, it felt like a full song," she told The FADER over email. "The album version came from mistakenly playing the track on wrong speed. I did the vocals again; Homer sampled the drums —and bingo! I love driving with this song, drifting away like a summer that never ends.”
