In the age of the exhaustingly teased, exclusively premiered music video, other formats can often fall by the wayside. Perhaps it's an attention span thing: it's easier to celebrate a singular visual then invest hours digesting a body of work. It's time to resist that impulse, however, and enjoy the fruits of some musical quality time—and there's no better place to start than Mexican label NAAFI's Pirata 2 compilation. 21-tracks deep, it's stacked with intricately rhythmic remixes, mash-ups and bootlegs produced by NAAFI's roster of largely Mexican and Chilean artists, including FADER fave Imaabs. Alongside the expected but innovative reworks of Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tinashe (the latter's one of our fave songs this week) sit re-imaginings of tracks by Berlin-based Texan transplant Lotic, fellow Tri Angle artist Rabit, and Lisbon producer DJ Marfox.

"Latin electronic hits for the dancefloor" is how NAAFI's Tomás Davó (who runs the label with fellow artists Alberto Bustamante (Mexican Jihad), Paul Marmota and Lao) describes the idea behind the compilation to me over email. As with many online electronic labels, the label grew out of an IRL event: "It started as a club night in 2010 presenting both [homegrown] and international acts that were not being showcased in Mexico City." Now nine releases strong, the label is looking to grow, as they detail in the short film above. Last year they threw a New Year's Eve party in Oaxaca, Mexico, and invited Fade To Mind and Night Slugs artists, including Total Freedom, Nguzunguzu and L-Vis 1990, to play alongside the full NAAFI crew. They've already got plans for something big to see in 2016, but for now, listen below and download your sensual summer soundtrack here.
