Janelle Monae And Wondaland Records Pay Tribute To Victims Of Police Brutality
The new single “Hell You Talmbout” “carries the unbearable anguish of millions.”
Janelle Monae and her label, Wondaland Records, combine forces on their new single "Hell You Talmbount." It’s a forceful track built around repetition of the names of those who have died from racially-motivated violence, often at the hands of the police—a group that includes Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, and Emmett Till.
The track is accompanied by a statement, which you can read below:
This song is a vessel.
It carries the unbearable anguish of millions.
We recorded it to channel the pain, fear, and trauma caused by the ongoing slaughter of our brothers and sisters.
We recorded it to challenge the indifference, disregard, and negligence of all who remain quiet about this issue.
Silence is our enemy. Sound is our weapon.
They say a question lives forever until it gets the answer it deserves...
Won't you say their names?

Yesterday, Janelle Monae and Jidenna led a march against police brutality in Philadelphia. Today, they are doing the same thing in New York from 12 – 2 PM.
