Earlier this year, speculation that Death Grips had broken up ran rampant after a fan leaked purported DMs with the experimental rap group's producer Andy Morin. The message placed the blame on the group's vocalist, Stefan Burnett a.k.a. MC Ride ("Stefan doesn’t want to do [it] anymore") while leaving the door open for a reunion: “But truthfully none of us can ever predict what will happen with the group.” Months later, Death Grips have issued a statement on Instagram denying that they'd broken up, though the message is not signed by Morin.

The statement is written on a framed picture. "Despite rumor and hearsay, we remain active as Death Grips," it reads, with the names of Burnett and Zach Hill, the group's drummer, and the bottom. See it below.

Death Grips officially broke up in 2014 after the release of their double album The Powers That B, in a message written on a napkin. They reunited for their 2015 fifth studio album Bottomless Pit. The EP Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix) was shared in May 2017, followed by Year of the Snitch in 2018. Their most recent release is 2019's Gmail And The Restraining Orders EP.
