Liz Harris gave the world a bare portrait of herself on Ruins, her tenth album of ambient electronic experimentation as Grouper. Her new project Helen - a dream pop band that was supposed to make thrash metal - is another cohesive representation of an inner life, but unlike the music of Grouper, Helen's new track "Violet" does not exist outside of time. The track pulls from shoegaze, Bob Mould as well as Harris's unmistakable ability for dreamy vocals to create something just as moving as it is referential.
Helen's debut album Faces is out September 4 via Kranky. Read our interview with Liz Harris here.
