This Year’s Afropunk Performances Were Absolutely Gorgeous
Grace Jones, Lenny Kravitz, Lauryn Hill, and more.
The punkest thing that happened at the 11th annual Afropunk Fest this weekend was 67-year-old Grace Jones, topless and covered in paint, hula-hooping with as much strength and casual excellence as ever. When she took the stage on Saturday night, it was after an epic line-up featuring the likes of Kelis, SZA, and Lauryn Hill, who played on despite her sound and lights being cut off.
Lenny Kravitz headlined the second day of the festival, after performances by Goldlink, Kelela, Thundercat, and many others across Afropunk's three stages. Check out photos of some of the performers below, and for a history lesson, read about the festival's origins in a documentary and message board community.
