Miguel Teamed Up With Make Room To Raise Awareness Of America’s Rental Crisis
He played an acoustic set in a house outside of Detroit.
Miguel frequently plays stripped-down versions of the muscular tracks that appeared on his last two albums, but his latest live acoustic set was different: he connected with the advocacy organization Make Room for a performance intended to bring attention to the crippling effects of high rents.
Make Room's website describes the organization's goal in simple terms: "end the rental housing crisis in America." To do so, it "partners with and convenes corporations, policymakers, and nonprofit organizations to raise awareness in support of the 11 million families struggling to make rent."
Before playing three songs in the living room of a house outside of Detroit, Miguel noted, "I grew up in a single parent family, and my mom often struggled... it's really cool to hopefully let you know that people are paying attention." He then worked his way through renditions of "Adorn," "Coffee," and "What's Normal Anyway."
