Listen to Co La Flip Dancehall Samples On New Single, “Crank”

The Baltimore-based producer’s upcoming album No No is out October 9th via Software.

September 24, 2015

Since his breakout in 2011, Baltimore-based producer Co La has established a penchant for rearranging reggae snippets into avant-garde electronic structures. Brazen as ever, today he's back with "Crank," a single off his upcoming album No No, that combines layers of shuffling, tropical percussion sounds with dancehall samples that seem to call and respond as if they were at the same party.

"Ultimately 'Crank' is all about the Beenie Man sample: reliving the past—your loss. It's a sentiment that's against nostalgia," Co La explained to The FADER over email. "Joe (Motion Graphics) auto-tuned the verse in the middle into the alien state that it's in now. He's a longtime collaborator, I highly recommend everyone check his music out now—it's a glimpse into the future imo." Software will release Co La's No No on October 9.
