FADER Mix: Stellar Om Source

Yesterday was officially the start of fall and, as with all new beginnings, it can take a moment to adjust. But worry not, for French techno artist Stellar OM Source has made the prefect mix to reset your brain to free-flowing form. Drum machines work overtime, like an enthusiastic masseuse, before streaks of acid join the party; it's just the thing for a night drive, as Source suggests herself in the interview below. Where are you right now? Please describe your surroundings.

At home, sitting at our big living room table. To the left, the door to my home-studio. To the right, a huge picture of a forest surrounded by other (real) plants. Behind the wooden blinds on the street in front of me, I can see my neighbors incredible '80s postmodern house with purple pipes and mirror windows.

Tell us a bit about the mix—what do you imagine people doing while listening to it?

Ideally a late night drive on the highway. I think that the flow while driving is the perfect moment to enjoy music. It is definitely my favorite.

Techno plays with tension and release more than any other genre. When did you first fall in love with it and why?

Probably when I joined my friends on a three-hour surprise drive to Belgium in the late '90s. Trance in music is something I'm attracted to. Escapism with music—abstraction and the physical aspect of this type of music. The night enjoyment and the sense of commemoration of people together too.

You released Nite-Glo back in June. What can fans look forward to next?

A secret new project! Not so soon, but in some time.

What's the last book you read that had a big impact on you?

One of my dearest friends gave me this book: The Four Agreements. She actually bought a stack of them and gives them whenever it's needed. I heard about the book but it was the perfect occasion to read it. And it had impact! Very often I refer to it, for very small daily events or bigger moments. It delivers a great wisdom.

And finally, what's your favorite dish to cook and how do you make it?

Risotto al limone! I like simple Italian dishes but which require patience and the best ingredients. I make risotto with Noilly-Prat, a southern French vermouth. This golden tip came from a French friend, Julien, who is the best cook I know. Beside that for the recipe the best arborio rice, home-made broth, organic lemons and Parmeggiano. 45 min stirring time. With asparagus, it's a killer.
