Q-Tip is Pharrell's special guest on this week's upcoming episode of Othertone, the artist's show on Apple's Beats 1 Radio. In the preview clip above, the famous MC reflects on the music that inspired him when he was just starting out in A Tribe Called Quest. "The summer of '86 changed hip-hop forever," Q-Tip notes. "This eventually was the music that affected Dre, it affected me."
After the brief history lesson, Scott Vener cues up Eric B. and Rakim's debut single, "Eric B. Is President," which is built off an ankle-breaking sample of James Brown's "Funky President (People It's Bad)." At that point, Q-Tip gets on his feet and starts dancing.
Vener also mentioned on Twitter that the show would feature "an unreleased Neptunes song from 1997." To hear more of the rapper's thoughts on the early years of hip-hop, tune in to Beats 1 Radio on Sunday at 3 PM EST.
