If STWO (pronounced like Stu) is not on your radar yet, now is the time to make yourself familiar. The French producer has recently signed with OVO sound-master Noah "40" Shebib's publishing company in March, and has since been grinding away on his forthcoming debut Distant EP.
"I have remained relativity silent over the past while with my original work because I felt like a lot the music I have put out has not represented the music I want to make today," STWO explained in an email to The FADER. "I am evolving as an artist. By being labeled as a Soundcloud/Future Beats artist, and hearing the same style beats everyday online made me question myself about what I wanted to do musically with my first commercial release."
Our first taste of Distant is a song called "Haunted," which premieres on The FADER today. Featuring whispery Dutch singer Sevdaliza, it's a voluptuous tease that takes its sonic cues from the electro-pop STWO was raised on. "It’s funny how everything is cyclical," he said. "I grew up listening to electronic/pop music way more than hip-hop/r&b, and unconsciously this track sounds more electronic than most of my previous work. It’s like I have gone back to my roots somehow."
He also added that, "I’m excited for everyone to the rest of my new EP. It will be out before 2015 is over.” Hit play above or purchase "Haunted" on iTunes now; Distant is expected to arrive in late November.
