Today, THEY.—the sum of L.A.-based producer-songwriter duo Dante and Drew—have consummated their recent signing to Mind of a Genius (home to Gallant and ZHU) with the release of their inaugural project, a three-track EP titled Nu Religion. Described by Dante to The FADER as "the soundtrack to not giving a fuck," it is a brooding batch of rock-R&B hybrid that takes cues from the duo's dueling influences: Taking Back Sunday and New Edition, Kurt Cobain and New Edition.
"Nu Religion is a new way of thinking," said Drew. "As individuals the way we have approached life and the art of music has always been left of center; even from youth. It's been all about finding a way to incorporate that into a cohesive musical project that we are proud of and that people enjoy. We think we've done that."
Ebro Darden gave Nu Religion its first spin last night on his Beats1 show, calling THEY. "the crew you need to know and invest time in." And indeed, the Nu Religion is the first installment of a three part EP series; get invested below, and keep an eye out for parts two and three, coming soon.
