Anna Of The North Bring Out Scandi-Pop’s Sensitive Side

Norway-based duo share a lovelorn video for “The Dreamer.”

October 20, 2015

You know when you go through a break up and then end up texting your friend for an hour about how you definitely don’t care about them? Norway-based duo Anna of the North have made a sweet, sad synth-pop song for those tumultuous times, built around the plaintive hook “it’s not about you, it’s not about you any more" and a tsunami of percussion. Filmed in their lush home town of Jessheim, 40 minutes outside Oslo, the video shows flashes of singer Anna Lotterud during day-to-day tasks—a cup of morning kaffe, a familiar cycle ride—while driven to distraction by a heavy heart. "The scenic shots are pretty essential in this music video” Lotterud explained to The FADER in an email. "We didn't want there to be too much of a storyline, but I guess it's about a girl who is getting herself back together after a break up, but constantly being reminded of her ex when she's out with other people.”

“The Dreamer” follows the duo’s debut single “Sway”, and is out on 20 November via Different Recordings / Honeymoon / Hub.
