This past spring, The FADER visited Allan Kingdom in his hometown of St. Paul to spend time with the rising singer and chart his recent success. The son of Tanzanian and South African immigrants, Kingdom was born in Canada and raised in the Midwest, where he began building buzz over the internet. Earlier this year, he landed on the hook of Kanye West's "All Day" and joined West on stage at The BRIT Awards in that now-infamous blowtorch-assisted performance—a big feat for any artist, but especially one from Minnesota. "I'm taking everything I'm learning in the world and creating my own world that you can join me in," he says in The FADER's forthcoming documentary, True North.
