This Very Important Ava DuVernay Barbie Doll Sold Out In Minutes
Commercial demand does not lie.
Ava DuVernay, the Best Picture nominated director of Selma and, yes, a woman, now has that most polarizing of female icons—A Mattel Barbie Doll—fashioned in her likeness. Part of Mattel's "Sheroes" line, the dolls were mass-produced after Ava DuVernay auctioned off a prototype to benefit Color of Change and Witness Organization, prompting her fans to beg for a full-fledged run of the toy. The DuVernay went on sale at 1 pm today and promptly ran out, leaving a large market hungry for toys that reflect intelligent, diverse representations of women. More, more!
