In 2013, she earned a chapter in the book How It Feels to Be Free: Black Women Entertainers And The Civil Rights Movement. Last year, Netflix released What Happened, Miss Simone?, a documentary accompanied by a tribute album featuring Jazmine Sullivan, Usher, Mary J. Blige, and more.
Another movie about the singer is due out April 22. Nina stars Zoe Saldana as Simone and David Oyelowo as her assistant-turned-manager, Clifton Henderson. The film marks the directorial debut of Cynthia Mort. EW shared the first trailer for the movie today.
