Bun B started his recent SXSW chat with James Prince by telling a story from his early days as a young MC trying to break into rap. “It was a Saturday night, probably around one in the morning,” Bun remembers. “We were shooting pool, listening to the radio.”
“I want to say Reggie Reg played this song,” he continues. “It wasn’t the first rap song I heard, it wasn’t even the first rap song from Houston I heard. But when that DJ played ‘Mind Playing Tricks On Me,’ I knew the game was on. I knew there was no way that they could deny what the south was doing in hip-hop. I knew from that point on, that whenever me and Chad [Pimp C] was gonna do, it was gonna be a little bit easier. And that credit goes to this gentleman right here – James Prince.”
