Museum Mouth's "Lacquer" Proves Unrequited Love Songs Are The Best Songs
“This song is like a really ugly chimera of rock genres and I LOVE IT!!!!”
Wilmington, North Carolina-based trio Museum Mouth make gritty pop punk about feeling down, falling in love, trying to figure yourself out, and all that good stuff. The band is following up a string of records, EPs, and splits with a gut wrenching new full length, Popcorn Fish Guinea Pig, due out April 29 on Rory Records (a label founded by Say Anything's Max Bemis, fittingly).
Today, The FADER has the pleasure of premiering Museum Mouth's latest single, "Lacquer," a catchy smasher of a love song. I thought that I would finally move on from unrequited love songs/ But I was wrong, belts vocalist and songwriter Karl Kuehn. After just a listen or two you'll be ready to belt it out with him.
"If it's not immediately obvious, I had been listening to a lot of Hum lol," wrote Kuehn in his email to The FADER. "But honestly 'Lacquer' is about pursuing a love interest you know is gonna fail. The two of you lock eyes from across the room and you immediately foresee every phase of your short relationship crashing and burning. But of course you pursue it anyways 'cause why TF not, right? Also, I'm gonna be really honest, I had to let my inner rap rock freak out with this bridge, and have my Blink-182 'Going Away to College' moment in the outro. This song is like a really ugly chimera of rock genres and I LOVE IT!!!!"
