During the 2016 BET Awards in Los Angeles, Jamie Foxx introduced Laila Ali after reflecting on the passing of both Prince and Muhammad Ali. Regarding Ali, Foxx remembers the icon as someone who “stood up at at time when no one was standing up. It’s definitely more than just boxing, more than just entertainment, but someone who shaped all our lives.”
Laila Ali then took the stage to eulogize her later father, who passed away on June 3, 2016. “My father lived his life with conviction and purpose,” Laila Ali begins, eventually becoming choked up by the sense of gratitude and love that everyone has shown her and her family. She ends the speech with something her father told her: "If people loved each other as much as they loved me, it would be a better world." Watch above.
