The ESPYs opened up tonight with a powerful statement on racial injustice and police violence in America from LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony. The NBA superstars took the stage side-by-side dressed in black suits and each spoke about the racial divide in America and the responsibility of athletes to use their platform to promote justice.
In the final comment from the introduction, LeBron James spoke about this responsibility: ""We all feel helpless and frustrated by the violence. We do. But that’s not acceptable. It’s time to look in the mirror and ask ourselves: ‘What are we doing to create change?’"
