Danny Brown Spills On His New LP Atrocity Exhibition: “This Is My Career Album”
The rapper also discussed how A$AP Rocky and ScHoolboy Q helped out.
Danny Brown and his very flashy grills got up at 5 a.m. to discuss his upcoming album Atrocity Exhibition with Sway In The Morning in his hometown of Detroit.
The eight-minute discussion started off with Brown revealing his work schedule ("I write all night and record all day.") and his thoughts on when he found his artistic voice ("[It happened] when I got grown. Shit, I think that's all it is, you gotta find yourself and figure out who you is. Most kids don't know that. I think they're more ambitious than creative.")
When the discussion turned to Atrocity Exhibition, Brown said he's been working on the album for the past three years. "I recorded most of it in London with Paul White, who produced most of it." During this time he played the album for other rappers like A$AP Rocky and ScHoolboy Q, who also played his new music for Danny Brown to get feedback. "We bounced off with each other albums. I heard his album [Blank Face LP] from beginning to end, just like he did mine. I'd go to his house and we'd just play songs back and forth. It helped us out."
If you're a fan impatiently awaiting Atrocity Exhibition, Brown made it clear that's worth the wait. "I feel like this is my career album. I built up everything I did for this album. This is the full-fledged Danny Brown doing Danny Brown. You might dib and dab with certain sounds, but now I know what the Danny Brown sound is, and this album's that."
