Hillary Clinton Accepts The Democratic Presidential Nomination In Philadelphia
In the closing speech of the convention, Clinton outlined her plans to move America forward.
Hillary Clinton took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia tonight, accepting the historical presidential nomination for the Democratic Party.
After an introduction from her daughter, Chelsea, Clinton greeted the convention crowd amidst cheers and applause, before thanking Bernie Sanders and his supporters for putting economic and social justice "front and center, where they belong." Clinton then turned her attention to Donald Trump, acknowledging the country's current divisions: "America is once again at a moment of reckoning. Powerful forces are threatening to pull us apart.”
"I’m so happy this day has come. I'm happy for grandmothers and little girls and everybody in between," Clinton told those gathered on the convention floor, noting the historicity of the moment. "After all, when there are no ceilings, the sky's the limit.”
Clinton took aim at Trump in the latter half of her speech, recounting his problematic ideologies while assuring those listening of her ability to unite political factions and stick up for the rights of disadvantaged groups. "That's why we're here...not just in this hall, but on this Earth," Clinton said in the closing moments of her speech. "And so have many others since. They were drawn together by love of country and the selfless passion to build something better for all who follow. That is the story of America. And we begin a new chapter tonight."
