A Tribe Called Quest finished recording a new album before the death of founding member Phife Dawg, Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid said on a new episode of the Rap Radar podcast.
In an exchange spotted by DJBooth, the record mogul seemed excited by the prospect of a new album from the seminal hip-hop group:" [It is] a brand new album that they recorded before Phife [Dawg] passed away. I’m really happy about it man, it’s really something special. It’s one of the things I’m most excited about over everything we’re working on."
Representatives for A Tribe Called Red and Epic Records were not immediately available for comment. A Tribe Called Quest's last album was 1998's The Love Movement.
