The Winners And Losers Of NYFW
Faux locs, runway hijabs, and a lubed-up Wolfgang Tillmans at Fashion Week.
The genderless denim brand based out of Amsterdam put together an actual hoedown.
For (once again) hosting NYFW's most lit after-party — at White Castle.
3. Loser: Jeremy Scott
An after-party plagued by pick-pockets overshadowed the designer's garish, slick tribute to excess.
Yeezy Season 4 may have kicked things off at Roosevelt Island, but Rachel Comey's sidewalk showing and Eckhaus Latta's courtside seating may have topped it.
Speaking of going courtside, Raquel Allegra and Assembly's decision to showcase their collections on members of the Downtown Girls Basketball Team was a magical pick-me-up at the end of NYFW.
6. Loser: Marc Jacobs
We might've been willing to write off those synthetic locs as misguided, but then he went and issued that shitty non-apology. Your L.
The model known on Instagram as @sleepy.angel was basically ubiquitous, hoedowning at Hardeman, walking for Gypsy Sport, and posing for Kim Shui, among like 10 other appearances.
The most irreverent and fun denim brand around did it again this season, with a collection modeled by celebrity impersonators. Showing up meant getting to mingle with Prince, Boy George, and Tina Turner.
9. Loser: Kylie Jenner
Literally, just why.
10. Winner: Anneisa Hasibuan
The Muslim designer's NYFW show made waves for two reasons: one, opulent clothing that recalled the luxury out of the early Coco Chanel years, and two, putting every model who walked her runway in a hijab.
11. Winner: Young Thug
Young Thug showcased his commitment to being a VFiles mentor by jumping up from his seat mid-show to fix the collar of a model passing by.
12. Loser: Yeezy Season 4
I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. It brings me no pleasure to bring down Yeezy, but watching models wilt under the blaring sun wasn't fun for anyone.
Yes, the conditions at Yeezy were less than ideal, but for some established editors, it was over before the shuttle bus had even left Manhattan.
The designer showcased an ethereal, ephemeral collection designed for trans women.
15. Winner: Alisar Ailabouni
The model, walking in Christian Siriano's show, managed to catch a falling earring without missing a beat.
16. Winner: Christian Siriano
The designer showcased different body types without sensationalizing his decision to do so. He deflected the increased attention he received as a result of his casting, saying simply, "It will be normal one day."
Out and about promoting awareness of ocean pollution, Adrian Grenier sat down with The Cut ahead of his presentation at Refinery29's 29 Rooms party. He managed to direct attention away from his cause and towards his "pioneering" of Williamsburg, his nauseating sense of self-importance, and his awesome experiences at Burning Man. Pass.
18. Winner: Delpozo
The Spanish design house's spring presentation was so uniformly angelic it's nearly impossible to pick a favorite look. But keep an eye out for shoulder-hugging earrings, elaborately sheer silhouettes, and slicked-back hair this spring.
19: Winner: Pornhub
Pornhub's collaboration with Hood By Air managed to wrest the crown for Most Engaging Collab With A Normal-Ass Brand away from Vetements/DSL.
20. Loser: Cathy Horyn
The Cut's great fashion editor's HBA review managed to convey an ignorance for just how stigmatized sex still is while first managing to mistake German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans for "an aging porn star" then implying he wanted to look like one.
21. Winner: Alexander Wang
Alexander Wang is BACK! After a few lackluster seasons, the NYC favorite seems to have recovered much of his enthusiasm and capacity for delighting his audience. A surprise adidas collaboration reveal and an after-party with performances by CL, Travis Scott, DeJ Loaf, and Juicy J did the trick.
22. Winner: Solange
When it comes to fashion, is Solange ever not a winner? Honest question.
