A$AP Rocky And SpaceGhostPurrp Reunite On “R.I.P. Yams”
The end of the beef, or just an old verse?
Before A$AP Rocky became a household name, he collaborated with Florida producer and Raider Klan founder SpaceGhostPurrp on tracks like "Keep It G" from his debut mixtape Live. Love. ASAP and "Pretty Flacko." But in 2012, their relationship soured after a member of the A$AP Mob brawled with SpaceGhostPurrp's cousin. Over the next four years, Rocky and Purrp traded insults online, through raps, and the media —Purrp claimed that a peace was brokered in August 2014 by the late A$AP Yams, who Purrp would go on to diss this year on the track "Cooking Yams" (In a twenty minute recorded statement, Purrp placed the blame for the A$AP Mob/Raider Klan beef on Mob co-founder A$AP Bari).
Today, SpaceGhostPurrp uploaded a track to Soundcloud called "R.I.P Yams," which includes a verse from A$AP Rocky. It's unclear whether or not it's a new verse, or Rocky is recycling older material recorded when the two rappers were on better terms. Still, for fans who wonder what the two artists would have made had they stayed on good terms, the lo-fi gothic creeper is an enticing sample.
Since Purrp is known for constantly deleting songs and entire social media accounts, listen to "R.I.P. Yams" below while you can. The FADER has reached out to A$AP Rocky's management for comment. After the song, watch a FADER mini-doc from 2011, featuring footage of Rocky and Purrp together in happier times.
