Lil Yachty To Ebro: “I’m Out Here Trying To Promote Positivity On A Global Scale”
Lil Boat cleared the air with Ebro on Beats 1 and premiered a new song.
Lil Yachty sat down with Ebro today on Beats 1 for the first time since a June interview on Hot 97 that sent the rap internet into a frenzy.
The conversation mostly revolved around the fallout from a handful of similar incidents that highlighted rap's generational divide, including Yachty's admission that he wasn't particularly familiar with the music of Biggie or Tupac. "I think your fan base thinks I hate you," said Ebro early in the interview, to which Yachty responded, "I think my fan base thinks you hate every young star coming up."
The rapper also responded to criticism from Lord Jamar and others on his supposed negative influence on hip-hop: "The last time I checked, I was the one promoting positivty...I'm out here trying to promote positivity on a global scale," said Yachty, noting that he's vocally advocated for kids to remain drug free and has made appearances at schools and group homes to speak to youth.
Mostly though, the sitdown functioned as a kind of reconciliation. Ebro noted that he believes Yachty "has great hooks and melodies," and Yachty did some backtracking on his Biggie comments: "The only thing I kinda hate is that I spoke so quickly," he told Ebro, "I feel like I owe an apology, because I didn't think before I spoke."
In other news from the ten-minute interview, Yachty announced he has plans to dabble in acting, and dropped off a new track, "Judgement Free." Watch above and listen below.
