In October, SZA took to Twitter to air out some grievances with her label TDE. "I actually quit," she wrote. "@iamstillpunch can release my album if he ever feels like it. Y’all be blessed.” The tweet was deleted soon after, but speculation about SZA's future in music remained. Recently, the singer spoke to Complex about her upcoming album and her current headspace.
“I’ll probably just do something different, something visual, probably film,” SZA told Complex regarding her desire to step away from music. “I’m really frustrated, and I’m kind of over it. I have a lot of anxiety and there’s a lot going on in my life.” She also clarified that there aren't any irreparable differences between her and TDE: "I don’t have any issues with my label. My label has been nothing but supportive of everything I’ve wanted to do.”
For the album, which has been tentatively titled A, SZA has spent time working with Thundercat, Tyler, The Creator, Rick Rubin, and, most surprisingly, Frank Ocean. “I sat with Frank [Ocean], and that was crazy,” she said. “He has changed a lot. Watching his process, being in that musical place with him, just understanding and learning.”
