You might recognize Lulu James's rich voice from collaborations with producers like Jon Hopkins and Gorgon City. But with her new video "Colours" — premiering above — the British-Tanzanian singer is the star of the show.
The infectious track is a stripped-back showcase for her acrobatic vocal, with light piano chords and percussion forming the backdrop to James's lyrics about learning to love her differences. It comes with a similarly minimalist video, in which a painted James dances with her own reflection. "I wrote 'Colours' looking for guidance," James wrote in an email to The FADER. "Things are getting crazy all over the world right now. I feel it's important to not lose myself in all of it, so I reach out to the universe to keep me on track. This video hopefully passes on a positive message of self-worth and self-love."
"Colours" is the lead single from an EP of the same name, which James will self-release on December 12.
