Watch Jenny Hval’s Revealing New Video For “The Great Undressing”
Her latest Blood Bitch visual uses nudity to explore some of the album’s key themes.
Jenny Hval dropped off the visuals for "The Great Undressing," a highlight from her excellent Blood Bitch album today. The visual was directed by Marie Kristiansen and takes a literal approach to the song's title, exploring a day in the life of a woman who's completely nude without knowing it.
Kristiansen spoke on the video in a statement she shared with Pitchfork earlier today, saying, "From an intellectual point of view I was intrigued by what would happen if you watched a naked woman totally ignorant about her own nudity going about a normal day. Would she be perceived as a sexual object? Or would her nakedness and femininity become something ordinary and natural?"
She went on to explain that the visual plays off some of the key themes expressed in Hval's lyrics to the song, saying, "From a spiritual point of view the film explores loneliness and isolation in a world where capitalism and blending in are the two ruling factors." Watch above.
