A British publisher is looking for BAME writers to contribute to a YA anthology due for release later this year. Stripes, who are based in London, will publish A Change Is Gonna Come in August. Authors such as Patrice Lawrence, Lemn Sissay, and The Good Immigrant editor Nikesh Shukla will be submitting stories. However, there will also be entries from unpublished authors looking to break into the industry.

Stripes commissioning editor Ruth Bennett told The Bookseller that the anthology is a response to the lack of diversity in the publishing industry. "We see this project as an opportunity to discover and nurture new BAME writers," she said. "Our hope is that the anthology will launch several long and successful careers." Bennett is also looking for a BAME editor to shadow her during the process.

The theme of the book is "change" though the authors can “interpret the theme however they are inspired to do so,” according to Bennett.

Any BAME writers who want to be involved are required to submit a 2,000-5,000 word story to editorial@stripespublishing.co.uk by February 28. For more information visit Stripes's website.
