Lil Ugly Mane’s New Bedwetter Track “Stoop Lights” Is A Breathtaking Document Of Depression
“Imma see black till my eyes adjust.”
"Anxiety and mental health has been an ongoing theme with this project. It's not insincere or a joke, despite any other dumb shit I may say," Travis Miller shared in a recent Facebook post as Lil Ugly Mane, before revealing that his struggles were ongoing. This same candor flows through "Stoop Lights," Miller's new song as Bedwetter.
The track looks at a corrupted system — in the case of "Stoop Lights," it's a mind — which has been a theme in Miller's work post-Mista Thug Isolation. Amongst a noisy bed of textures reminiscent of dälek's early shoegaze-inspired productions, Miller as Bedwetter raps about a life stuck in an ouroboros of addiction, depression, and distrust. "Can't stop thinking that's my mind on liquor/ mind on liquor now my mind half-gone/ Mind half-gone 'cause I wish I had a family/ Family ain't here 'cause I been living wrong," he raps. It feels almost invasive to listen to, like we're hearing the mumblings of someone locked outside a mouldy shack from just around the corner, a desperate, disintegrating person staring at the moon as rats nest around him.
