Report: Houston Mosque Goes Up In Flames Early Saturday, No One Injured
The fire was believed to have started around 2 a.m. The cause is currently unknown.
Early Saturday morning, a fire destroyed the Islamic Center of Victoria, a mosque in Houston. It's also important to note this happened just hours after President Trump signed an executive order to temporarily restrict immigration from Muslim countries on Friday.
According to reports from the Houston Chronicle, a clerk from a nearby convenience spotted the flames around 2 a.m. and called the fire department. No one was inside the building at the time.
As of 3:46 p.m. EST, fire responders have said it's still too early to speculate the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the church has started a GoFundMe to raise money for rebuilding the mosque.
This same mosque was the target of a burglary earlier this month, in which someone broke in and stole some electronics and laptops. This is also the second instance of a mosque being destroyed in a fire in Texas this month. On January 7, a mosque in Austin, Texas was also burned to the ground.
This is a developing story and we will update this post as more information gets released.
