Laurel Halo Shares Two New Tracks Inspired By Computer Generated J-Pop Star Hatsune Miku

Laurel Halo's new project was first presented at Berlin's CTM festival in early 2016. Titled "Still Be Here," the project is inspired by Hatsune Miku. Animated character Miku is the face, figure and personality of Crypton Future Media’s Vocaloid 2 software. As Laurel Halo explains in this aft3r.us article, "Anyone with the software can program songs for her to sing, chaining syllables to a melody along a timeline, adding moments of melismatic, accented or soft delivery."

Together with sound artist Mari Matsutoya, digital artists Martin Sulzer and LaTurbo Avedon, and choreographer Darren Johnston, Halo and her fellow artists created something between a concert performance and an essay portrait based on the synthetic J-Pop artist. Their aim was to create a work that reflected on Miku’s various parallel identities, in the typical fashion of her creation — networked and collaborative.
