Shia LaBeouf’s Livestreaming Trump Protest Installation Has Been Shut Down
The Museum of the Moving Image in Queens says the installation has became “a serious and ongoing public safety hazard.”
The Museum of the Moving Image has announced the end of their "He Will Not Divide Us" installation, a livestreaming protest piece meant to run for the duration of Trump's presidential term, has been shut down. The installation, which positioned a camera to broadcast museum visitors saying the phrase, was a coloration between Shia LaBeouf, Nastja Säde Rönkkö, and Luke Turner.
"The installation created a serious and ongoing public safety hazard for the Museum, its visitors, staff, local residents, and businesses," the museum said in a statement. LaBeouf was arrested at the installation site in January after an altercation. The museum noted that the installation "deteriorated markedly after one of the artists was arrested," adding that threats of violence had compelled a 24-hour police presence.
The "He Will Not Divide Us" livestream and has been replaced with a banner reading "The Museum Has Abandoned Us," which LaBeouf shared on Twitter.
A representative for Luke Turner was not immediately available for comment.
