Viola Davis Won The Oscar For Best Supporting Actress
This was the Fences actress’s third nomination and her first ever Oscars win.
At Sunday's 89th Academy Awards, Fences actress Viola Davis won the Oscar for best supporting actress. The award is Davis' first Oscar, and is for his performance as Rose Maxson in the Denzel Washington directed film. She also won the Golden Globe for this role last month. Watch her speech above.
"Thank you to the academy. There's one place were all the people with the greatest potential are gathered and that's the grave yard," she said "People ask me all the time what type of stories do you want to tell and I say exhume those bodies. I became an artists and thank god I did because we are the only profession who celebrates what it means to live a life. So here's to August Wilson."
