RULES And Yayoyanoh’s “Want” Is As Sad As It Is Sexy

RULES is a Virginia-based singer and producer who, despite the distance, makes music that fits perfectly into the foggy universe of London electronic collective Bala Club. Like a mixture of two of Bala Club members — hard-edged reggaeton producer Kamixlo and soft-spoken singer/MC Uli K — RULES writes dembow-inflected and distortion-heavy songs that sound both doomed and lustful.

"Want" is both his saddest and his sexiest effort yet, and features fellow Bala Club affiliate Yayoyanoh with a searing verse. "I started this track about a year ago after some relationship bouts," RULES wrote in an email to The FADER. "It was a weird, hazy, and emotional period when I just wanted to have fun and forget. Yayo added an extra layer of sexiness to the song."

Yayoyanoh added: "Making songs people can get intimate to is cool — makes me feel like I'm making the world more populated." Listen below.
