Pan Sonic’s Mika Vainio Has Died
The electronic musician was 53.
Mika Vainio, the electronic musician who pushed boundaries both as member of Pan Sonic and with his solo project Ø, has passed away, according to FACT. He was 53.
Vainio formed Pan Sonic with Ilpo Väisänen and Sami Salo in 1993. The group released a dozen studio albums, including highly-regarded works like 1995's Vaiko and Kesto (234.48:4) in 2004. After Pan Sonic disbanded in 2009, Vainio continued with his solo career, collaborations, and scoring films like Mika Taanila's Tectonic Plate.
The electronic music community mourned Vainio's passing and praised his legacy on Twitter.
