President Donald Trump's frequent trips to his private Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida have cost taxpayers over $20 million, and in one year may outspend the amount Obama used for vacations over two presidential terms. It's the source of increasing scrutiny, especially given Trump's proposed budget which slashes funding to programs that assist the poor, and agencies like the EPA and the National Endowment for the Arts.
IsTrumpAtMarALago.org, a new site from the Center for American Progress, keeps a running tally of every time the President visits Mar-A-Lago, how much it's cost the country so far, and some other, much nobler causes that money could be used to fund, like Medicaid, Meals on Wheels, and public school funding.
Trump's multimillion dollar vacation tab may lead Palm Beach County to designate the Mar-A-Lago Resort as its own tax district, to prevent local dollars from funding President Trump's downtime.
