Solange accepted the award for Artist of the Year at the Webbys on Monday night in New York. The award, which denotes online excellence, was presented to the singer by Kara Walker, one of the foremost visual artists working today. Like Solange, Walker's work explores blackness and the identities that come with race.
Solange, like all the other winners, was only permitted five words for her acceptance speech. The singer took the stage and sang, “I got five on it.”
So humbled, honored, and filled with gratitude. Thank you @TheWebbyAwards and the phenomenal Kara Walker . https://t.co/q3NQbgoIFW

In a statement released back in April, the Webby Awards wrote that Solange is "a true artist of the online generation." The folks behind the award made note of Saint Heron, Solange's online platform. "Saint Heron is an unparalleled celebration of cultural diversity and the evolution of music; and it’s through this platform that Solange has provided a completely new and unique space for collaboration between artists, as well as a large audience for creative expressions by artists of color," the statement read.
