When he hosted Saturday Night Live a week after Trump's election, Dave Chappelle delivered an impassioned monologue to begin the show. The comedian criticized his fellow American for electing "an Internet troll as president," and said he wasn't surprised by the result. But he ended the monologue with a message of unity. "I’m wishing Donald Trump luck,” he said. “And I’m going to give him a chance. And we the historically disenfranchised demand that he gives us one too.”

On Monday night, Chappelle reversed his previous statement during a set at New York’s Robin Hood gala, according to MSNBC's Willie Geist, and others in attendance. "I was the first guy on TV to say ‘Give Trump a chance,’" he said. I fucked up. Sorry." Watch Dave Chappelle's SNL monologue above and watch a separate clip from the Robin Hood gala show below.
