Skepta Won Two Major Prizes For Songwriting In The U.K.
The grime MC was named songwriter of the year at the Ivor Novello awards on Thursday.
Skepta received another major U.K. music prize in London yesterday, May 18. He was rewarded for his songwriting at the 2017 Ivor Novello awards, picking up the songwriter of the year prize at the ceremony. Additionally, his track "Man (gang)" was named best contemporary song.
Speaking at the ceremony after accepting his prize from his sister, Julie Adenuga, The Guardian quotes Skepta as saying that he had recently “really fallen in love with songwriting."
"It’s helped me out through my life," he added. "I understand that in any time in my life I understand that the reason I’m so easy with bad times now is that I’m like ‘Oh, another song’s coming’. Songwriting has really allowed me to enjoy life and look at it from an objective place.”
Other winners at the annual awards this year included Coldplay, Michael Kiwanuka, Florence + The Machine, and Laura Mvula. Pulp were awarded an outstanding song collection prize while Bill Wither collected a special international award.
